Ancestral Threads of Life: An Intergenerational & Multicultural Service

  • Unity of Madison 601 Tompkins Drive Madison, WI, 53716 United States (map)

This event is a collaboration between myself, Jessica, and Unity of Madison, where I teach kids Earth based spirituality on Sunday mornings.

There will be small elements of Unity's format of service woven into this event.

Here's the scoop!

Join me, Reverend Richard Bunch, as well as the Unity parents as we talk about Samhain and Day of the Dead, honor our ancestors, and weave in the Unity power of life (from the Unity 12 Powers).

Optional

If you'd like to bring a photo of an ancestor, or a loved one or special animal that has passed on to place on the altar during our ceremony, please do. You could also bring something to represent them.

What Is An Intergenerational Service?

These intergenerational services allow us to encourage and celebrate our youth as they share their spiritually related talents and interests. Through these services, we get to support this younger generation as they build confidence and skills to bring peace, joy, empowerment and spiritual practices to themselves, their loved ones, and their communities.

These services provide an opportunity for our youth to play a special role in our community. I work with Reverend Richard, Unity music director Pete Calgaro, and the families to co-create these special services.

At our Fall Equinox service, one our Unity kiddos who is almost 9, led a guided meditation to release with Water. Everyone commented on how wonderful it was, and he's since been invited to lead a meditation for another group by someone that was at that service! He will be leading the meditation at this October 29 service as well.

Another Unity kiddo has become our altar centerpiece creator, which is a perfect match for his interests and energy.

All kids are given the opportunity to take on special role, and are supported leading up to the event so that they can shine in whatever they may choose to share at the actual service.

If you’ve got a kiddo and you want to attend this service, I will have small ways for them to get involved in the service if they want that requires no preparation or conversation in advance, so just show up! Of course they can simply sit with you and soak in the message- they don’t have to get involved if they don’t way to.

For those unfamiliar with Unity, it’s a worldwide organization that centers 12 Powers and 5 Principles. It’s pretty universal stuff, which is why I like teaching there. When Unity says “God” and “Christ”, it’s moreso the Universal energy of love that they are speaking of.

After service, join us in the lower level cafe for snacks and conversation.

We hope to see you there!
